Speculation surrounding the marriage of US Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, has intensified after the Second Lady was seen without her wedding ring during an official engagement—weeks after her husband publicly acknowledged religious differences within their union.
Usha Vance was photographed arriving at Albert J. Ellis Airport in Richlands, North Carolina, alongside First Lady Melania Trump as part of their visit to Camp Lejeune. In images captured during the arrival, Usha’s left hand was clearly visible, and her wedding ring was notably absent. Observers noted that the band remained missing throughout the entire event.
Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance has continued to wear his wedding ring, including during a speaking engagement in Washington on Thursday, fueling further public interest.
Rumours about the couple’s marriage first gained traction in October after JD Vance revealed he had once pleaded with his wife to convert from Hinduism to Catholicism, pointing to a long-standing religious divide in their relationship.
Earlier this month, Usha was also seen without her ring while accompanying her husband to a military medical centre, adding to the chatter.
Responding to inquiries about the missing ring, a spokesperson for the couple played down the concerns, explaining:
“Usha is a mother of three young children who does a lot of dishes, gives lots of baths, and forgets her ring sometimes.”
However, the public remains unconvinced. Social media users questioned the explanation, with many suggesting that, given her status and the likelihood of being photographed, the decision to appear ringless may have been intentional.
One user wrote:
“Yes, many people don’t wear their wedding rings all the time. But she has to know she’ll be photographed and it will be commented on… so I definitely think it’s purposeful, to make some sort of statement.”
The couple, who share three children, have not issued any further comments on the matter, leaving room for continued speculation.
