Samklef Blames Davido for Rising Toxicity in Nigerian Music Industry

“You don’t act like a celebrity” – Samklef continues dragging Davido

Record producer Samklef has stirred debate online after accusing award-winning singer Davido of fueling toxicity and unhealthy rivalry within the Nigerian music industry.

Samklef made the remarks while reacting to a tweet by producer-turned-singer Pheelz, who lamented the growing culture of comparisons and competition among artists. Pheelz expressed concern that the trend was damaging the essence and spirit of Nigerian music, stating, “Music was meant to be enjoyed, not to be compared. This comparison game is hurting the sound and culture more than we can ever know.”

In response, Samklef argued that the industry was once built on mutual respect and unity, especially during the early rise of artists like Wizkid and Olamide. According to him, the atmosphere was peaceful and centered purely on creativity and enjoyment before Davido entered the scene.

He claimed that Davido’s arrival marked a turning point, alleging that it introduced unhealthy competition, threats, and unethical practices into the industry. Samklef insisted that music was never meant to become a battleground for rivalry or dominance.

Reflecting on the early days of the industry, he wrote, “Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love.

“Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music.

“Then one Scorpio boy who moves like diddy..Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic.

“Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere.”

Samklef’s comments quickly sparked mixed reactions online, with many critics accusing him of unfairly singling out Davido and oversimplifying the complex issues affecting the music industry.

As of now, Davido has not responded to the allegations.
