Former First Lady Aisha Buhari has opened up on why she has chosen not to remarry following the death of her husband, former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Monday at the State House in Abuja during the unveiling of a biography titled From Soldier to Statesman: The Legacy of Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha described her decision as a pragmatic one, adding that she does not consider remarriage to be moralistic for her.
While reflecting on the next phase of her life, the former First Lady revealed plans to step back from public life and focus on personal interests, family, and charitable causes. She said her future would involve a balance of philanthropy, travel, and quieter engagements away from the political spotlight.
According to her, she intends to dedicate more time to managing her foundation and other humanitarian projects.
“I would have my quiet time to run my foundation, the Aisha Buhari Foundation, and the cardiovascular and medical centre in Kano.
“I will host, collaborate, and extend the same ethic of care that animated my politics into a quieter, more sustainable hospitality,” she said.
Aisha Buhari’s remarks offered insight into how she plans to honour her late husband’s legacy while embracing a more private and purposeful chapter of her life.
