2027: Abiodun Promises Peaceful Power Transition in Ogun State

"I am not an emperor by any chance and this is not my family inheritance" - Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun reacts to Tinubu’s outburst against him

Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has assured residents that his administration will ensure a smooth, peaceful and conflict-free transfer of power at the end of his second term in 2027.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday while speaking at a Christmas service held at St. James’ Anglican Church in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area.

“As we approach 2027, not only will we finish well and finish strong, by the grace of God this administration will hand over successfully to a successor,” Abiodun said.

He added that the transition would mark the first truly peaceful handover in the state’s 50-year history, expressing confidence that he would attend both his send-forth ceremony and the swearing-in of his successor.

Abiodun attributed his confidence to what he described as strong governance, economic growth and people-focused projects carried out by his administration. He said Ogun State’s economy has grown nearly fivefold, with the budget increasing from about ₦355 billion to over ₦2.7 trillion.

According to the governor, his achievements include the reconstruction of over 2,000 schools, job creation, farmer empowerment and the attraction of new industries across the state.

He also highlighted major infrastructure projects such as the Gateway International Airport and developments across the three senatorial districts as key legacies of his government.

Abiodun praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda is helping to stabilise the economy through improved fuel availability, easing inflation and a more stable foreign exchange system.

Speaking on the significance of Christmas, the governor urged residents to embrace love, peace and generosity, especially towards the less privileged. He cautioned against excessive celebration and alcohol consumption, encouraging citizens to live Christ-like lives.

In his sermon titled “Christmas Is God’s Best Gift to You,” the church’s vicar, Venerable Tolulope Akinwande, described Christmas as a reminder of God’s love through the gift of Jesus Christ, adding prayers for Governor Abiodun to finish his tenure stronger than he began.
