Nigerian-American rapper Wale has spoken about the role he played in the early international rise of Afrobeats star Wizkid.
During a livestream conversation with comedian Carter Efe, Wale said he introduced Wizkid to a global audience and supported him at a crucial stage of his career.
The rapper disclosed that he took Wizkid to his first-ever BET Awards ceremony and also hosted him in Beverly Hills, California, for an extended period while they worked on music together.
“I’ve been following Nigerian music for a long time. There are many artists I enjoy listening to,” Wale said. “But Wizkid is my boy. We’ve been cool for almost 10 years.”
He added, “I remember taking him to his first BET Awards. I even accommodated him in Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were writing music and made songs like ‘Drop For Me’ together.”
Wale’s comments have sparked renewed appreciation for the behind-the-scenes collaborations that helped position Wizkid on the global stage.
