American rapper A$AP Rocky has revealed that his mother had long hoped he would end up with Rihanna, even advising him to pursue the Barbadian superstar while he was still in another relationship.
Speaking in an interview with The New York Times, Rocky shared that at the time, he and Rihanna were only friends and he had no intention of taking things further.
According to him, his mother was convinced Rihanna was the right person for him and repeatedly encouraged him to date her, insisting she was “a real one.” Rocky admitted he brushed off the advice back then, believing their bond was strictly platonic.
Reflecting on their journey, the rapper said he is grateful they didn’t rush into a relationship. He explained that neither of them was ready for the level of commitment and family life they now share.
Rocky and Rihanna first grew close after he joined her Diamond Tour in 2013. Romance rumours began circulating in early 2020, shortly after Rihanna ended her relationship with billionaire Hassan Jameel.
Before Rihanna, Rocky previously dated model Kendall Jenner between 2016 and 2017.
The couple went on to welcome their first child in 2022, their second in 2023, and their third child in 2025, solidifying one of pop culture’s most high-profile relationships.
