Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson has confirmed that she has withdrawn the defamation charges filed against TikTok content creator Eedie Bliss.
In a video shared on her Instagram page on Monday, the 41-year-old actress said the decision followed appeals from people she and her husband deeply respect, noting that their interventions played a major role in her choice to discontinue the case.
According to Johnson, the legal dispute had begun to disrupt her plans for the year after, in her words, “certain individuals refused to leave her alone.” She maintained that neither she nor her family had wronged anyone and questioned why private family matters were being targeted online.
“False narratives and propaganda cannot define who I am,” she said.
Johnson added that she chose to let the matter go out of respect for her loved ones.
“I’m letting this girl go. I’m dropping the case with this girl out of respect for people my husband and I respect and love,” she stated.
She also alleged that some bloggers are paid to circulate false stories, claiming that misinformation is often sponsored within the entertainment industry.
“You don’t know that these bloggers are paid by actors. They can pay them to say whatever,” she said.
The video was accompanied by a caption which read:
“For the love and respect we have for numerous individuals – We have decided to withdraw the charges against the lady in question. Please, you all should leave my family alone.”
Eedie Bliss was released from police custody on Saturday after being detained over a TikTok video posted in December 2025.
In the video, she made allegations involving Johnson’s husband, Prince Okojie, including claims that he bought a house for a pregnant mistress and that Johnson was involved in a plot that led to a miscarriage. The actress and her husband had denied the allegations.
Social media commentator VeryDarkMan welcomed the withdrawal of the charges, stating that defamation matters should primarily be handled as civil cases rather than criminal proceedings. He also urged the public to stop harassing Mercy Johnson and her family.
The development has sparked renewed conversations online about digital responsibility, defamation, and the boundaries between public figures and content creators in Nigeria.
