American pop star Britney Spears has reportedly been arrested in California for allegedly driving under the influence.
According to records from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Spears, 44, was taken into custody on the evening of March 4 and released in the early hours of March 5.
Authorities confirmed she was booked around 3 a.m. and released from custody a few hours later. At the time of her arrest, she was handcuffed and processed before being freed.
Britney Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
The arrest comes shortly after reports that the singer was granted a restraining order against a man from Louisiana who allegedly harassed her for several years.
This is not Spears’ first legal issue. In 2007, she faced charges including an alleged hit-and-run involving a parked vehicle in Los Angeles. Those charges were later dropped after she paid damages.
In early 2024, Britney Spears publicly stated that she would not return to the music industry after gaining financial independence following the end of her court-ordered conservatorship.
Last month, reports also indicated that she sold the rights to her entire music catalogue to Primary Wave for approximately $200 million (£146 million).
