Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has replaced Benjamin Hundeyin as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The development was announced on Sunday in a statement issued from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Hundeyin, who had served as the police spokesperson since September 2025, was appointed by the former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

Following the new directive, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Anthony Placid will now serve as the new spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force.

Placid joined the police in 1996 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kano and was commissioned in August 1998.

Born on December 2, 1970, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, he hails from Mbiokporo Nsit in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.

The new police spokesperson holds a degree in Geography and Regional Planning from the University of Uyo, as well as a master’s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos. He also studied law at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

During his career in the force, Placid has served in several strategic roles.

He previously worked as Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State and also served at the Police Staff College.

On the international stage, he served as Chief of Training for the African Union Mission in Sudan and later as Head of Training and Development at the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur.

Within Nigeria, Placid has held operational roles including Divisional Police Officer in Federal Housing Calabar, Bakassi, Uruan and Gembu, as well as Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Robbery Unit in Kaduna State.

He also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations) in Akwa Ibom and Kogi states, and worked in the Intelligence Department in Abia State.

In December 2025, Placid completed the Senior Executive Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and was inducted as a Member of the National Institute (mni).

The change comes following the appointment of Tunji Disu as Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu, after the resignation of his predecessor Kayode Egbetokun.
