Tinubu Rejects National Assembly Library Bill, Warns of Legal and Financial Pitfalls

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have arrived in the United Kingdom for a historic state visit following an invitation from King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The presidential aircraft touched down at London Stansted Airport at approximately 3:23 p.m. local time on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a high-level diplomatic engagement between Nigeria and the UK.

According to presidential aide Sunday Dare, who shared the update on X, the visit underscores efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.

During the visit, President Tinubu and the First Lady will be hosted at Windsor Castle from March 18 to March 19.

The visit will include a series of strategic engagements, including meetings with UK government officials and organizations involved in interfaith dialogue.

President Tinubu is also scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street.

Key agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries, covering trade, investment, defence, and culture.

A major highlight of the visit will be the signing of a £746 million financing agreement involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance. The deal is aimed at refurbishing the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can Island Port Complex—critical infrastructure for Nigeria’s maritime and trade sectors.

The president is accompanied by a high-powered delegation, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Attorney General of the Federation Lateef Fagbemi.

Also on the trip are ministers Dele Alake, Mohammed Idris, Bianca Ojukwu, Wale Edun, Jumoke Oduwole, Hannatu Musawa, and Bosun Tijani.

Security and intelligence chiefs in the delegation include Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Mohammed Mohammed.

The visit is expected to deepen diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
