“She Deserves the Utmost Respect” — Miss Nigeria Apologises to Omotola Over Viral Interview Moment

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde Biography, Age, Net Worth, and Career (2022)

The Miss Nigeria Organisation has issued a public apology to veteran actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde following a viral moment from its 46th Patrons and Board Dinner held in Lagos.

The incident, which quickly spread across social media, showed a reporter approaching Omotola during a live segment and asking her to introduce herself.

Caught off guard, she responded by questioning the request, saying, “You are here with who? Should I tell you my name? You are not ready.”

Even after the presenter clarified that he only wanted to mention her name for viewers, she replied, “Why should I let fans know me? I am tired,” before walking away.

The clip sparked mixed reactions online, with some defending the actress and others criticising her response.

Reacting to the situation, the Miss Nigeria Organisation released a statement on Tuesday, acknowledging the incident and apologising to the actress.

“First and foremost, we wish to publicly extend our sincerest apologies to Omotola for the discomfort she experienced. She deserves the utmost respect and care,” the statement read.

The organisation explained that the dinner was a strictly private, invite-only event and that the situation arose from unexpected media interaction outside official arrangements.

“When media presence occurs outside of the designated channels at private functions, it can lead to impromptu moments where both guests and interviewers are caught off guard, as was the case here,” the statement added.

The organisers also urged the public to consider the full context before forming opinions based on a short clip, describing Omotola as a respected figure who has contributed significantly to the industry.

“Omotola is an icon who has opened doors for many, and we stand firmly with her,” the statement said.

They also used the opportunity to highlight her latest film, *Mother’s Love*, noting that proceeds from its cinema run will support Slum2School Africa.

Founded in 1957, the Miss Nigeria Organisation remains one of the country’s oldest pageant platforms, known not just for beauty contests but for promoting leadership, cultural identity, and empowerment among young Nigerian women.
