Filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele has openly expressed admiration for veteran actress Bimbo Akintola, describing her as one performer who still challenges her.
Speaking during her Creative Blueprint 2.0 masterclass in Lagos, Funke shared how deeply Bimbo’s performances affect her as an actor.
“There’s only one actor that I always shake for… if she acts, I rethink my career. Abimbola Akintola, she’s deep,” she said.
She added that working alongside Bimbo is the kind of experience that pushes her to reflect and improve.
“That’s the actor that if you put me with, I’ll go and rethink,” she said.
Bimbo Akintola, who has been in Nollywood since the mid-1990s, is widely respected for her range and emotional depth. She has starred in notable films like Owo Blow, Out of Bounds, Diamond Ring, 93 Days, and The Black Book, building a reputation as one of the industry’s most grounded performers.
Funke Akindele’s own journey began in the late 1990s with the TV series I Need to Know, before she gained massive popularity with Jenifa in 2008.
Since then, she has become one of Nollywood’s most influential figures, with major projects like Omo Ghetto: The Saga, A Tribe Called Judah, and Behind The Scenes.
Her comment highlights the level of respect Bimbo commands within the industry, even among top actors who have achieved major success themselves.
