Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has addressed swirling rumours suggesting a rift between him and celebrated filmmaker Funke Akindele, clarifying that there is no bad blood between them.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, the actor dismissed the claims as baseless speculation driven by social media narratives rather than reality.
According to him, online platforms often create stories that do not reflect the true nature of real-life relationships.
“Nothing really happened between me and Madam Funke, and I am not aware of any fallout. Social media likes constructing their own script, and when they are done, they start looking for people to fill in the character they want,” he said.
Makinde emphasised that his relationship with Akindele was built long before social media attention and cannot be defined or dismantled by online assumptions.
“Our relationship didn’t start on social media, so it’s not on social media it will end,” he explained. “There are some growths in life that will cost you some relationships, and it may look like it’s lost in transit, but that’s not how it is.”
He further clarified that Akindele’s absence at his wedding in December, which fueled much of the speculation, was due to her demanding schedule at the time. She was reportedly occupied with a movie project and could not attend the ceremony.
Makinde also took a moment to acknowledge the significant role Akindele played in shaping his career, noting that his journey in the film industry has been largely influenced by her mentorship.
The rumours initially gained traction after fans noticed her absence at his wedding, sparking assumptions of a possible fallout. However, Makinde’s clarification now puts those claims to rest, reinforcing that not all perceived distance translates to conflict.
