Ever heard of the name or street or popular area, location, a city that bears a name and you wondered how was that name arrived at, for example, Adeniji-Jones, Herbert Macaulay way, or prominent Lagos families like Alakija, Oniru, and the likes.

Well, all you are about to find out, how all those names and family names became iconic.

After the transatlantic slave trade was abolished in the 1800s, liberated slaves called ‘Saro’ moved to Lagos from Sierra Leone in large numbers.

While some returned to their original towns, many settled in Lagos Island.
