A section of Manhattan’s iconic Fifth Avenue came to a standstill last week as Jeff Bezos made headlines for yet another luxury move — literally.
Video footage that quickly went viral showed a massive crane lifting a wrapped piece of furniture high above the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 26th Street, destined for the billionaire’s lavish penthouse in the 212 Fifth Avenue building.
The dramatic delivery necessitated full-on street closures, complete with barricades, caution tape, construction equipment, and moving trucks, creating a spectacle that drew dozens of bystanders and curious onlookers.
The moment was captured by Raffi Arslanian, owner of luxury candle brand Thompson Ferrier, whose nearby office offered a perfect view.
“You want to see how Jeff Bezos delivers his furniture? Let me show you,” he said in his now-viral TikTok, which has racked up over 970,000 views.
He added, chuckling: “Now back to reality, where we move with U-Hauls — or at best, hire movers. We don’t shut down a street.”
What Was in the Air?
The contents of the airborne delivery remain a mystery, with social media users speculating everything from a grand piano to a custom hot tub. One user joked, “Amazon Prime delivery — billionaire subscription.”
Another quipped, “We’d all do the same if we had $100 billion.”
In reality, large cranes like this in NYC can cost upwards of $20,000 per day, not including permit fees for closing public roads.
A Penthouse Fit for a Titan
Bezos, currently worth an estimated $223 billion (per Forbes), purchased five luxury units between 2019 and 2021 in the 212 Fifth Avenue building — a former office tower turned high-end residential address overlooking Madison Square Park. The apartments, which span the top four floors, are reportedly worth a combined $119 million.
This isn’t the first time the Amazon founder has turned heads with his real estate dealings, but it might be the most viral. As one commenter summed it up:
“When you’re worth more than most countries, this is just another Tuesday.”
