The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has taken a hard swipe at former Governor Ayodele Fayose, branding him a betrayer and advising him to exit the party instead of constantly mocking it in public.
This sharp rebuke follows Fayose’s appearance on Channels Television, where he controversially declared that the PDP is dead.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Dare Adeleke, Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Ekiti, the party criticized Fayose for repeatedly undermining the same political platform that made him governor twice.
Adeleke accused Fayose of colluding with the APC and endorsing their government in Ekiti, actions he described as longstanding acts of betrayal. According to him, the ex-governor’s disloyalty stems from his failed attempts to seize control of the PDP structure in the state—a move that was resisted by party leaders.
The PDP chairman also alleged that Fayose has lost political relevance in Ekiti, claiming that no ward or LGA chairman has followed him to any other political party.
“Fayose keeps calling the PDP a dead party, yet he won’t leave. That shows he’s just bitter,” Adeleke said. “He admitted he supported Tinubu purely out of personal friendship and tribal loyalty, not on principle.”
He likened the ex governor to “a soldier who sells out his own army and still demands promotion,” adding that the ex-governor’s political antics have isolated him from serious players in the PDP.
Adeleke insisted that the PDP remains strong and united despite the former governor’s criticism and predicted that the party would win back Ekiti State from the APC in the next election.
“The PDP will reclaim Ekiti. Fayose’s APC-aligned followers are irrelevant. We will mobilize true party loyalists and restore PDP’s dominance,” Adeleke stated confidently.
