Nigerian singer Shoday has weighed in on the staying power of controversial street-hop star Portable, insisting that it will take a long time before the artist loses relevance.
Speaking in a recent interview, Shoday explained that Portable’s influence goes far beyond music, pointing to his unique personality and constant presence on social media as factors that keep him in the spotlight.
He recalled how many critics initially dismissed Portable as a “one-year wonder” when he shot to fame in 2021, but noted that the singer has continued to defy the odds.
“Artists like Portable, before he will go down and not trend again, it will be long. Music is far beyond song. You can’t just be putting out music, people need to know who you are. People need to know your personality and this person doesn’t care. He posts on Instagram like WhatsApp. When he came out people thought he was only going to trend for a year and that’s that, but till today he’s still buzzing…”
Portable, who is well known for his raw street vibe and controversial lifestyle, has remained one of the most talked-about figures in the Nigerian music scene, constantly stirring headlines both for his music and his dramatic persona.
