Nigerian singer and songwriter Seyi Shay has openly declared that Wizkid is the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in Afrobeats.
She made this revelation during an appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where she reflected on her friendship and creative experiences with the global superstar.
Speaking about Wizkid’s artistry, Seyi Shay described him as “a magician,” praising his intelligence, discipline, and unique level of creativity.
She recalled a studio session they once shared, noting how impressed she was with his effortless recording style.
“I still think he’s the greatest. I’ve worked with everybody in this industry and to me, Wizkid is the greatest. I don’t care what anyone says. I’ve actually seen him record while eating, and that was mad to me. I don’t know where he gets his inspiration from,” she said.
Beyond music, Seyi Shay explained that Wizkid offered her valuable insights about the music industry when she was still new to the scene.
According to her, he often advised her to stay guarded and disciplined—traits she believes have helped him sustain his global dominance.
“He used to tell me a lot about how people behave in this industry… I wish I listened more. He’s very disciplined and that’s something I admire deeply about him,” she added.
Wizkid, born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, has long been recognized as one of Africa’s biggest music exports, with hits like Ojuelegba, Come Closer, and the Grammy-winning Made in Lagos album solidifying his influence. Seyi Shay’s remarks echo the sentiments of many fans and industry observers who regard him as a defining figure in Afrobeats’ global rise.
