Nollywood actress Omobolarinde Akinyanju, popularly known as Ashabi Simple, has explained the circumstances that led her to report singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, to the police.
Speaking in a video shared on social media on Monday, Ashabi Simple said the incident occurred during the Christmas and New Year period. She alleged that Portable threatened her and members of her family with an axe during a dispute, seized their phones, punched her brother and slapped her sister.
According to her, the singer also poured water on her while speaking in a language she could not understand.
“Portable threatened us with an axe, slapped me, pushed my sister, and punched my brother in the face,” she said.
Ashabi Simple explained that she subsequently reported the matter to the Ogun State Police Command, which led to Portable’s arrest last week. Videos of the singer in handcuffs at a police station later circulated online, showing him shirtless and visibly distressed.
The police confirmed the arrest and disclosed that an internal investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the video and his detention.
Reports indicate that the disagreement began on January 1, when Ashabi visited Portable’s bar in Ogun State and asked him to publicly recognise her as his wife, a claim the singer reportedly rejected.
Portable has not directly responded to Ashabi’s latest claims, although he has denied some of the allegations in previous videos shared online.
