The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark Eid-ul-Fitr, the celebration that signifies the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Tuesday through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslims across Nigeria on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast, urging them to uphold the spiritual values cultivated during the period, including love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.
He also called on Nigerians to use the holiday period to pray for the nation’s peace, unity, and prosperity, especially at a time when national cohesion remains important.
The minister encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged, reflecting the core essence of Eid.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Tunji-Ojo stated that efforts will continue toward promoting national unity, peaceful coexistence, and stability across the country.
