Self-proclaimed financial consultant, GehGeh, has ignited considerable discourse online regarding his assertions pertaining to the improbability of Nigerian music icon Davido securing a Grammy award.
In light of Davido’s defeat at the 67th Grammy Awards, along with several prominent Nigerian musicians, GehGeh contended in an Instagram video that the award organizers prioritize prominent talents for promotional purposes rather than recognizing their artistic contributions.

He posited that Grammy accolades are frequently bestowed upon individuals who exhibit a nonchalant attitude towards the award, while artists who fervently aspire to attain such recognition are consistently overlooked.
“If you check the history of the Grammy, na people wey no really care about the award dey win. Once they know you are really obsessed with it, you go cry tire, you no go see am,” he said.
He further claimed that Davido and Wizkid’s nominations are primarily used to attract Nigerian and African audiences to the event. Comparing the situation to other international artistes, he referenced Drake’s decision to stop submitting his songs and questioned why Chris Brown was placed in the Afrobeat category.
“Grammy is using Davido to market the award to Nigerians and Africans. They know Davido and Wizkid are a big force in the music industry, and their nominations make Nigerians anticipate the event. Why do you think Drake stopped submitting his songs? Why would they put Chris Brown in the Afrobeat category? To market the award to Africans,” he added.
GehGeh also linked this pattern to other global stars like Nicki Minaj, claiming that she has been used similarly to generate interest in the awards without winning.
