Afrobeats artist Ruger shared on the Apple Music show Africa Now that his musical journey began in the church choir, where his vocals were shaped and honed.
Despite his vocal talents, Ruger prefers not to showcase them in his songs, reserving that experience for live performances.
He explains that his time in the church choir laid the foundation for his singing abilities, allowing him to deliver strong vocals when needed.
He said, “Only people who have experienced me perform live have had the opportunity to enjoy my vocals. Even in my music, I don’t necessarily show it off.
“My favourite time being Ruger is when I’m performing on stage because I get to do whatever I like with my songs. I started from the choir. I know how to sing, especially when it is a song that resonates deeply with me.”
