Aviation Minister Orders Ibom Air to Drop Charges Against Comfort Emmanson, Reduces KWAM 1’s Flight Ban

Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has directed Ibom Air to withdraw its criminal case against Comfort Emmanson. He added that the Police will take immediate steps to ensure her release from Kirikiri Prisons within the week.

Keyamo also instructed the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to cut the flight ban on singer KWAM 1 down to one month.

The announcement came via a statement posted on X by the minister on Wednesday. Keyamo said the decisions followed consultations with key aviation stakeholders and parties involved in the recent incidents, noting that “valuable lessons have been learnt by all sides.”

For Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba of VALUEJET, the NCAA will restore their licenses after the same one-month suspension, provided they complete a mandatory professional re-appraisal.

“These above decisions were taken by Government and the airline operators purely on compassionate grounds,” Keyamo stressed, adding that the government “will never pander to base sentiments, politically-motivated views or warped legal opinions when clear encroachment of our laws are involved.”
