Comfort Emmanson Yet to Decide on Legal Action After Release From Prison Over Ibom Air Altercation

Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger recently released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos after her viral altercation with the airline’s crew, remains undecided about whether to take legal action against the carrier.

Her lawyer, Adefunke Maria, revealed this during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, condemning the treatment Emmanson allegedly endured from a flight attendant who reportedly blocked her from disembarking after arriving from Akwa Ibom to Lagos last Sunday.

“On the way forward, whether Comfort will allow sleeping dogs to lie, she will inform us. We can’t disclose that online. She is a full-grown adult. If she’s going to press civil charges for compensation, she will let us know. But for now, she just needs to rest and put herself together,” Maria stated.

The incident, captured in viral videos, showed Emmanson and a flight attendant in a heated physical altercation as security officials tried to intervene. While some Nigerians condemned her aggressive response, others blamed the attendant for unlawfully preventing her from leaving the aircraft.

Public outrage also trailed the alleged indecent exposure she suffered during the confrontation with ground staff at the Lagos airport. Maria further accused the airline’s staff of filming the encounter and leaking it online — an act she described as highly condemnable.

Emmanson was arrested, arraigned, and remanded in prison on the same day, prompting accusations of selective justice, especially after Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, also known as Kwam 1, was not prosecuted for a separate incident on August 5, 2025, in which he attempted to block a moving ValueJet aircraft in Abuja.

Following public backlash, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo on August 13, 2025, ordered all charges against Emmanson dropped, leading to her release and the reversal of the lifetime flying ban imposed by airline operators.

Despite her freedom, social media users continue to urge her to seek legal redress, but for now, Emmanson is taking time to rest before making her decision.
