The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Simeon Amadi, has declined a request by the Rivers State House of Assembly to constitute a judicial panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, over allegations of gross misconduct.
In a letter dated January 20, addressed to the Speaker of the House, Martins Amawhule, Justice Amadi stated that he was unable to accede to the request due to a subsisting court order restraining him from taking such action.
The House of Assembly had earlier asked the chief judge to set up a seven-member panel to probe the governor and his deputy. However, Justice Amadi maintained that the existing court order made it legally impossible for him to proceed with the constitution of the panel.
The development effectively stalls the proposed investigation, pending the resolution or lifting of the restraining order by a competent court.
