Record producer and singer Samuel Oguachuba, popularly known as Samklef, has claimed he owns six tracks from Wizkid’s debut album Superstar.
Samklef made the claim on social media, stating that the songs were recorded in his studio and that no formal contract was signed during the recording sessions.
“Thank God I never used my masters to collect any loan. I’m about to negotiate with @BankyW since I didn’t sign any contract from the beginning. I hope the Wizkid Superstar masters were never sold,” he wrote.
The producer also alleged that the sessions were never paid for.
“I own 6 tracks from the masters because Banky didn’t pay for the studio sessions — and I also own the studio where all the songs were recorded.”
Released on June 12, 2011, Superstar was Wizkid’s first studio album under Empire Mates Entertainment (EME), founded by Banky W.
The album featured several hit singles and production contributions from Samklef as well as other producers, including Shizzi, Jay Sleek, DJ Klem, Masterkraft, and E-Kelly.
Guest artists on the project included Wande Coal, D’Prince, Banky W, and Skales.
Samklef has previously said he was paid ₦250,000 for producing six tracks on the album and claimed he did not receive further financial benefits afterward.
He has also called for royalties from songs, including Pakurumo, urging Banky W to address what he described as unpaid royalties.
In response to earlier claims, Banky W said Samklef’s name was not listed on the royalty split sheet and advised him to direct the matter to the appropriate parties.
As of now, neither Banky W nor Wizkid has publicly responded to Samklef’s latest statement.
Despite the dispute, Superstar remains widely regarded as a landmark album in Wizkid’s career. In 2024, the project returned to the top 10 of the Apple Music chart in Nigeria during anniversary celebrations.
