Several governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have arrived in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, in anticipation of the official defection of Governor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party at the federal level.
The governors’ presence signals strong backing for Eno’s imminent move, which is expected to significantly reshape the political landscape in Akwa Ibom.
Among the visiting dignitaries are: Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Bassey Otu of Cross River State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
Their arrival at the Akwa Ibom State Government House underscores the significance of Eno’s expected switch and the APC’s efforts to consolidate political influence in the South-South region.
Governor Umo Eno had recently hinted at his decision during a town hall meeting in Ikot Abasi, where he declared:
“It is time to move.”
He explained that the decision to join the APC followed extensive consultations with key stakeholders and was aimed at aligning Akwa Ibom with the party in control at the federal level.
Umo Eno’s move marks a dramatic political shift for Akwa Ibom, a traditional PDP stronghold, and is likely to spark broader realignments ahead of future elections.
