Nollywood actress Debbie Shokoya has reacted to viral reports linking her to Fuji singer Abass Akande Obesere, firmly stating that he is not her biological father.
The claim, which spread widely over the weekend, alleged that Debbie had opened up about Obesere being her father after years of keeping it secret.
Responding in a video shared on her Instagram page on Monday, the actress said the story is completely false and has no connection to her real life.
“It is not funny anymore; the news is everywhere. I have never met Obesere before, and you claim I said he’s my biological father?” she said.
Debbie questioned how such a claim could gain traction, adding that her resemblance to her actual father should make the truth obvious.
“Don’t I look like my father? Am I not my biological father’s replica?” she asked.
She went on to clearly set the record straight, saying, “Obesere is not my biological father. Please stop spreading fake news.”
The actress also expressed frustration at how quickly people believed and shared the story without verifying it. According to her, she never made such a statement and never “cried out” as reported.
“I’ve never said or written this, nor did I cry out as they claimed. Please stop spreading false news,” she added, calling on bloggers to give the same attention to correcting the misinformation.
Her response has since added to ongoing conversations about misinformation and how quickly unverified claims can spread across social media.
